              In the period of Dutch colony, Bengkulu had been 
              I exploited thoroughly by various efforts. The power I of colony 
              had covered all village's aspect of life, such as Kulturstelsel 
              coffee planting, exploitation _ of gold-mining, taxies, various 
              contributions and fines which had to be collected. The schools were 
              restricted on low grade education, and it was just for a few certain 
              people who was aimed to cover the shortage of low workers. The different 
              classification between indegerous people with Western and Chinese 
              had been instilled, aimed to increase the profit and keeping the 
              stability of colony power. This situation went on until the 
              Japanese army entered Bengkulu to grap the Dutch power in 1942. 
               
              In Japanese military occupation from 1942 until 
              1945 all funds and forces aimed to sake of the Japanese army. Japan 
              centralized its activity in Manna, South Bengkulu as a greases defense 
              basic in the west coast of the southern parts of Sumatra. The anguish 
              of the people reached to the top of afflication. Thousands of people 
              died by forced labor, less feeding and attached by decease. It was 
              over on August 1 7th 1945 because the Indonesian people proclaimed 
              their independence. 
               
              Bengkulu Province is easily accessible through land, air and sea 
              transportation. You can catch on regular buses serving direct to 
              Bengkulu from Medan, Padang or Jakarta. By air the flight will serve 
              you three times a day or by sea there is regular line being served 
              by domestic ship from Jakarta to Padang or Medan which has stop-over
